What We Do

United Way fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community.

Advancing the Common Good

Everyone deserves opportunities to have a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health.

That’s why United Way’s work is focused on the building blocks for a good life:

  • Education – Helping Children Achieve Their Potential
  • Financial Stability – Promoting Financial Stability and Independence
  • Health – Improving Access to Quality Healthcare

67,331 people in Middlesex County are living below the poverty line…19,677 of them are children under the age of 18.  Their ability to graduate from high school on time, avoid substance abuse and gang involvement and live a healthy and fulfilling life depends on all of us.

We understand that investing in prevention in early childhood is more effective and less costly than intervention later in life. Through the community programs that we help to fund and the initiatives run directly by United Way that translates into a special focus on the well-being of our community’s children.

The Christian C. Kjeldsen Fund for Children was established by UWCJ in 2003 to honor the memory of our former Board of Trustees Chair and Chief Volunteer Officer and continue his legacy of meeting the needs of our community’s children especially during early childhood.  The Fund helps to support UWCJ’s early childhood initiatives, including the Nurse Family Partnership, Parent Child Home Program and Abiendo Puertas/Opending Doors.
