United Way of Central Jersey received federal funding to expand its program and work in the community.
SUMMER STEAM STARS
United Way of Central Jersey has received a federal appropriation of $550,000 for a Summer STEAM Stars program at JFK Elementary School in Jamesburg. The funding, sponsored by Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman, will support a half-day summer program for 140 pre-k and kindergarten students and teachers, support staff, and student interns. It will help the students overcome summer learning loss and pandemic-related learning loss, and accelerate their readiness to enter the next grade.
PERTH AMBOY FINANCIAL OPPORTUNITY CENTER
United Way of Central Jersey has received a federal appropriation of $425,000 to help establish a Financial Opportunity Center in Perth Amboy. It also will house a “Career Closet” for clients who need interview-appropriate clothing and a “Reading Corner” for children who visit the FOC with their parents.
