Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 19, 1 pm, at the Monroe Township Library. W. Steven Barnett, a Board of Governors Professor and Senior Co-Director of the National Institute for Early Education Research at Rutgers University will be giving a talk about the benefits of early childhood education for low-income students.
It is well-known that children who succeed in school, graduate high school and go on to job training and/or college, become self-sufficient adults and contributing members of their community. This is especially vital for low-income students who face many challenges. If these students complete quality pre-school programs, they are then ready for kindergarten and ready to learn. If they are at or above reading levels in third grade, their chances of continuing their education and graduating high school are magnified. The children who have these opportunities succeed in so many ways and they are less likely to be in the criminal justice system or be in need of social services and other government-provided services.
So please join us at the Monroe Library and participate in this discussion. It is a topic of interest to all of us. We have had an especially strong response from the education community. There is no admission fee. Light refreshments will be served.
