President's Message

Welcome to United Way of Central Jersey 's public website. We are pleased to introduce you to our mission and vision for our service area of Middlesex County and Franklin Township in Somerset County .

We have mobilized a variety of partners to expand or enhance the human condition within our community: our Corporate Supporters, The Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, The Middlesex County Departments of Human Services and Aging, The Middlesex County and Franklin Township Offices of Economic Development, the chambers of commerce, the boards, staff and volunteers of non-profit social service agencies, our elected public officials, and United Way of Central Jersey's dedicated volunteers and staff.

We have studied the specific needs of this community and are pleased to announce bold initiatives in response to the Eagleton Institute's comprehensive assessment and detailed review:

  • Freeholder Director David Crabiel assumed the role of champion for improvements to the transportation system within the county. The specific objective is to make available affordable and accessible public transportation to residents ready, willing and able to accept employment.
  • Freeholder Jane Brady created the Middlesex County Really Affordable Housing initiative committed to the creation of 5,000 affordable units over a five year period, beginning in 2003. The Board of Freeholders has set aside one million dollars a year, for the five years of this initiative.
  • United Way of Central Jersey has launched our Christian C. Kjeldsen Fund for Children. We have committed to raise one million non-campaign dollars to support focused programs that will enhance the lifetime success of our children.
  • In response to the changing demographics of our community, we initiated the New Americans Program for our increasing immigrant population to facilitate the transition to the "American Way of Life" and provide knowledge about and access to the human service delivery network.
  • United Way of Central Jersey has received accreditation for the Points of Light Foundation and our Volunteer Center continues to lead the way in matching organizations in need of volunteer help, with individuals and groups having a desire to serve.

We are proud to have accomplished so much in 2003 through the commitment of our Board of Trustees , Staff and many volunteers. We look forward to our organization taking the lead in addressing what matters within our community.

Reflecting upon Central Jersey 's challenges and needs, we recognize that the greatest good can only be accomplished by our entire community "Working together to do "

We thank you for your past support and welcome your continued contribution of time, talent and financial resources.
